Six Week Online Class

Class Description:

In this six week course, we will start with simple drawing techniques to explore and experience on a personal scale how mindfulness and creativity connect and reinforce each other.

John F Simon, Jr. will lecture and guide participants through techniques from his book, "Drawing Your OwnPath", going further into topics such as: mark making, learning to interpret what has appeared on the page, and using meditation to discover the source of creativity.

Hands-on exercises introduce different styles of drawing and meditative techniques.  The course continually points you toward discovering the source of your own creativity - that from which all thoughts and ideas arise.

Weekly Format :

Class meetings are spread out over the six weeks to give enough time for everyone to practice and integrate the exercises and discuss their results with John.

• Lecture/Feedback : Each week, in a 75-minute video hangout. John will cover different topics from "Drawing Your Own Path". He will lecture, guide the group through practice exercises and discussions, and answer questions.

Group meetings for this course will take place on Saturdays at 10 am Pacific / 1 pm Eastern time.

• One-on-One Meeting:  Individually scheduled weekly 45 minute one-on-one meetings with John Simon.  These individual teacher meetings are an opportunity to discuss in private your creative and meditation practices and go over readings of you creative output.

• Open Studios: Informal gatherings offered during the week for small groups to draw together, meditate and share creative work.

John F Simon Jr. is the author of "Drawing Your Own Path: 33 Practices at the Crossroads of Art and Meditation". He is also a professional artist with over twenty years experience making and showing his original work. His creative ideas come from an introspective daily drawing practice that continues to open him to the source. His art is found in many prominent museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California, the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC, and many more.
